Numpy's `item(~)` method returns a specific element of the source array as a scalar.

# Parameters

1. `arg` | `None` or `int` or `tuple` of `int`

The allowed types are as follows:

Type

Meaning

None

The source array must be of size one, and returns that element as a scalar.

int

The index of the element to return as a scalar using the flattened version of the array.

tuple of int

The index of the element to return as a scalar.

# Return value

A scalar representation of a specific element in the source array.

# Examples

``` a = np.array([4,5,6])a.item(1) 5 `````` a = np.array([5])a.item() 5 ```

Consider the following 2D array:

``` a = np.array([[4,5],[6,7]])a array([[4, 5], [6, 7]]) `````` a.item(2) 6 `````` a.item((1,0)) 6 ```
