MySQL's QUARTER(~) method returns the quarter of the year for a given date or datetime.

Parameters

1. date | date/datetime

The date/datetime to retrieve the quarter from.

Return value

The quarter of the year for the input date or datetime.

Examples

Consider the following table about some students:

student_id

fname

lname

day_enrolled

age

username

Sky

Towner

2015-12-03

Basic usage

To return the quarter that current students enrolled:

SELECT fname, QUARTER(day_enrolled)
FROM students;

| Ben | 2 |
| Travis | 3 |
| Arthur | 2 |
| Benjamin | 1 |

To return students who were enrolled in quarter 1 or 2:

SELECT fname, QUARTER(day_enrolled)
FROM students
WHERE QUARTER(day_enrolled) IN (1, 2);

To retrieve quarter from datetime:
