expand_more PEP8 outlines that one line should not exceed 80 characters. Therefore, in order to write a single string that is longer than this we must either:
Use a backslash (
\
)Uses parentheses
Use concatenation
Using backslash
A backslash is a continuation character:
s = 'aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa' \ 'bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb'print(s)
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaabbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb
Using parentheses
A parentheses can be used to break lines:
s = ('aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa' 'bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb' 'ccccccccccccccccc')print(s)
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaabbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbccccccccccccccccc
Using concatenation
Note if you have variables that represent strings you will need to use concatenation:
x = 'bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb'y = 'aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa' \ + x + 'cccccccccccccc'print(y)
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaabbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbcccccccccccccc
