To count the occurrence of non-overlapping characters in Python's strings, use the
Counting the occurrence of a character in a string
Count the number of times the character "e" occurs in a string:
x = "Awesome"x.count("e")2
Counting the occurrence of a substring in a string
Count the number of times the characters "we" appears in a string:
x = "Awesome"x.count("we")1
Note that the the
count(~) counts non-overlapping substrings:
x = "aaa"x.count("aa")1
To count the occurrence of the substring "ab" starting from index 1:
x = "abcd"x.count("ab", 1)0
Python String | count method
Python's str.count(~) method counts the non-overlapping occurrences of a substring in a string.
