This method is available from version 3.7.

Parameters

No parameters.

Return value

A single boolean indicating whether all the characters in a string are ASCII.

True is returned if the string is empty.

Examples

Basic usage

To check whether all characters in the string 'My pen is worth ¥10' are ASCII:

x = 'My pen is worth ¥10'
x.isascii()
False

Note that the ¥ symbol is not an ASCII character.

To check whether all characters in the string 'My pen is worth 10 yen' are ASCII:

y = 'My pen is worth 10 yen'
y.isascii()
