To write mathematical expressions in Matplotlib, precede the expression with an r and then place the mathematical expression within a pair of dollar signs ($).
Examples
r'$\frac{1}{4}'
will produce $\frac{1}{4}$.
r'$\mu$'
will produce $\mu$.
