Python's tuple(~) constructor creates a new tuple from the given iterable. Tuples are immutable objects meaning they cannot be modified once created.

Parameters

1. iterable | iterable | optional

The iterable from which to create a new tuple.

Return value

A tuple object constructed from the iterable. If no iterable is provided an empty tuple is returned.

Examples

Basic usage

To create a new tuple:

tup = (1, 2, 3)

To create a new tuple based on the values of the favorite_languages dictionary:

favorite_languages = {
   'bob': 'french',
   'emma': 'spanish'
   'david': 'english',
   'silvia': 'french'
}

tuple(favorite_languages.values())
('french', 'spanish', 'english', 'french')

Immutable

If we try to modify a tuple we get a TypeError:

tup = (1, 2, 3)
tup[1] = 10
TypeError: 'tuple' object does not support item assignment
