expand_more Python's ascii(~)
method returns a printable representation of an object as a string. It escapes non-ASCII characters using \x
, \u
or \U
.
Parameters
1. obj
| object
The object to return a printable representation for.
Return value
A printable representation of the input object as a string.
Examples
Basic usage
To return a printable representation of 'marché'
:
ascii('marché')
"'march\\xe9'"
é
is not an ASCII character hence it is escaped to \xe9
. The \x
indicates that what follows it is a hexadecimal value.
NOTE
The output is returned inside double-quotes. This means when this result is passed to eval()
we will return a properly escaped version of the original object. The extra \
is added before \xe9
to make it escaped.
