expand_more Python's isinstance(~)
method returns a boolean indicating if an object is an instance of a class or its subclasses.
Parameters
1. object
| object
The object to be checked.
2. classinfo
| class
or type
The class or type we are checking the object for. This can also be specified as a tuple of classes and types.
Return value
A boolean indicating if the object is an instance of the specified class or its subclasses.
Examples
Basic usage
To check whether x
is an instance of a list:
x = ['a', 'b', 'c']isinstance(x, list)
True
To check whether y
is an instance of a string:
y = ['a', 'b', 'c']isinstance(y, str)
False
To check if my_dog
is an instance of the Doge
custom class:
class Doge():
# This is constructor for python
def __init__(self, name, age):
self.name = name
self.age = age
my_dog = Doge("Roxas", 26)
isinstance(my_dog, Doge)
True
