expand_more MySQL's CEILING(~)
method returns the smallest integer greater than or equal to the provided input number.
Parameters
1. X
| number
A number input.
Return value
The smallest integer greater than or equal to the provided input number.
Examples
Consider the following table about some students:
student_id | fname | lname | day_enrolled | age | username |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Sky | Towner | 2015-12-03 | 17 | stowner1 |

Basic usage
To return the smallest integer greater than or equal to -13.5
:
SELECT CEILING(-13.5);

To return the smallest integer greater than or equal to the average age of students:
SELECT CEILING(AVG(age)), AVG(age) FROM students;
+-------------------+----------+| CEILING(AVG(age)) | AVG(age) |+-------------------+----------+| 18 | 17.4000 |+-------------------+----------+
18
is the smallest integer larger than 17.4
(the average age of students).
