expand_more There are two main ways to modify an attribute's value: directly or through a method.
class Cat(): # This is constructor for python def __init__(self, name, age): self.name = name self.age = age # Teaching each cat how to meow def meow(self): print("I am a " + str(self.age) + " year old " + self.name)
# Creating an instance my_cat representing my cat Roxasmy_cat = Cat("Roxas", 26)
Directly
To update name
attribute value of my_cat
:
my_cat = Cat("Roxas", 26)my_cat.name = "Sora"print(my_cat.name)
Sora
Through a method
We can add a method update_age
to the class definition to increment age
by 1
:
class Cat(): # This is constructor for python def __init__(self, name, age): self.name = name self.age = age
# Adding method to update age def update_age(self): self.age = self.age + 1
# Teaching each cat how to meow def meow(self): print("I am a " + str(self.age) + " year old " + self.name)
To create an instance of Cat
class and call update_age
method:
my_cat = Cat("Roxas", 26)my_cat.update_age()print(my_cat.age)
27
We can see that age has now been incremented by 1
.
