Pandas DataFrame.swapaxes(~) method swaps the rows and the columns of the DataFrame.

NOTE

Opt to use DataFrame.transpose(~) to flip the rows and columns.

Parameters

1. axis1 | int

Set either 0 or 1.

2. axis2 | int

Set 0 if axis1=1 and 1 if axis1=0.

3. copy | boolean | optional

Whether or not to create a new copy of the source DataFrame. Note that a copy represents a new DataFrame, that is, modifying the transpose would not mutate the original DataFrame and vice versa.

By default, copy=True.

Return value

A DataFrame with the rows and columns flipped.

Examples

Consider the following DataFrame:

df = pd.DataFrame({"A":[3,4],"B":[5,6]})
df
   A  B
0  3  5
1  4  6

To flip the rows and columns of df:

df.swapaxes(axis1=1, axis2=0)
   0  1
A  3  4
B  5  6
