expand_more To extract elements by id in Beautiful Soup:
use the
find_all(~)
method with argumentid
.use the
select(css_selector)
method.
Just as an example, consider the following HTML document:
my_html = """ <p id="person_one">Alex</p> <p id="person_two">Bob</p> <p id="person_three">Cathy</p>"""
soup = BeautifulSoup(my_html)
Find method
To extract the element with an id
of "person_two"
using the find
method:
[<p id="person_two">Bob</p>]
Note that typically the ids of the elements are unique, so you might prefer to use soup.find(~)
instead:
<p id="person_two">Bob</p>
Select method
To extract the element with an id
of "person_two"
using the select(~)
method:
[<p id="person_two">Bob</p>]
A couple of things to note here:
make sure to prepend the
#
character before theid
namethe returned type is always a list
