There are 2 main ways to add new keys to a dictionary: subscript notation or dict.update(~) method.

Subscript notation

To add one key/value pair to dictionary d:

d = {'1':'one','2':'two','3':'three'}

# dictionary['newkey'] = 'newvalue'
d['4'] = 'four'

{'1': 'one', '2': 'two', '3': 'three', '4': 'four'}

dict.update(~)

To add multiple key/value pairs to dictionary d:

d = {'1':'one','2':'two','3':'three'}
d1 = {'4':'four','5':'five','6':'six'}

d.update(d1)
{'1': 'one', '2': 'two', '3': 'three', '4': 'four', '5': 'five', '6': 'six'}

We add the key/value pairs from dictionary d1 to dictionary d.
