In MySQL we can explicitly prepend the table name with the database name in order to access a table in a separate database (without having to navigate to that database first).
Example
Consider that we currently have the tutorial
database selected:
SELECT DATABASE();
+------------+| DATABASE() |+------------+| tutorial |+------------+
To retrieve students
table which resides in people
database while still having the tutorial
database selected:
SELECT * FROM people.students;
+----+-------+---------+| id | name | country |+----+-------+---------+| 1 | alex | russia || 2 | bob | japan || 3 | cathy | china | +----+-------+---------+
Notice how we prepend the table name with the database name.
